1 star is being generous, as other have said, felt a weird vibe, looked out of the window to see half naked guy wandering towards my van, quickly dressed and drove away to a nice quiet spot a couple of miles away. avoid, avoid, avoid

We wanted to stay for the night. We just found the layby as we drove by. We had a strange feeling and once even thought someone went around our van. A few minutes later a branch from a tree fell down and destroyed our window which was open at that time. After that experience and the bad feeling bevor we directly left this place.

Arrived to make a cuppa with the possibility of staying one night. There was one camper and five or six cars when we arrived at 6.30pm. All the cars have one man inside which looked really odd. It looks like that previous comments about perverts are true, we left straight away. Avoid this place.

Sadly the reports of perverts in the area are true !!!! Stayed here last night and was immediately approached by a guy who asked me if I "wanted a bit of fun". I Just ignored him, turned the engine on and left.

We stayed for several nights and had no problems at all. It was lovely and quiet and the road traffic noise was minimal as the lay-by is situated well back from the main road. The mobile connection was lovely and strong too. It is a popular spot for cars and trucks, but we had no uncomfortable vibes or experiences. There are no bins and there is a lovely view over the river and fields.

Quiet amidst lovely countryside. Decent protection against high winds.

I would certainly not recommend this layby. I found this area by accident on my way back from Scotland but promptly left. I immediately sensed a weird vibe here and did not feel safe and within 5 minutes, I had a bloke knocking on my van to apparently inform why he was parked there! Thankfully I have a good guard dog and decided to continue my journey rather than risk an overnight stay.

Sadly I have to agree with the other reviews, definitely weirdos around. Lots of car doors opening and closing late into the night, and someone driving past threw a beer can at the side of my van which frankly scared the hell out of me. Won't be coming back (not overnight anyways) which is a shame as the location is nice

Terrible, we had to leave. It was full of trucks with their back doors open weirdly (like 15). We saw a man naked walking around our van, it seemed like a cruising meeting point. Probably some of them were just tired and sleeping, but once we saw this guy we left.

Some traffic noise and people pulling through the layby until about 11pm, then it gets quiet with surrounding pastures and tree barrier between the A road. Large layby where lorries like to park for a bit of rest. Plenty of space

Tried one night here early Sept 2019. Very noisy with vehicles coming through the lay-by. York and it’s surroundings seem to have a disproportionate number of very strange people, all of them male. I gave up at about 3:00am and moved to another lay-by about 10 miles away that was noisy from passing traffic but free of perverts and criminals. York has much to ashamed of.

Good stop for one night, there is a tree barrier between the road, still noisy but only till about 11:30pm
