The struggle… yes the struggle is real to get there! Holey Moley! The road is just about doable in our Sprinter van but only in first gear. It was so windy we didn’t stay as wanted a decent night sleep. It’s in the clouds. Also the pub is still under renovation!

  • 5/5

9/2/24 Nice stop. Pub still closed for renovations. Plenty of room 5 vans and 2 cars the night we were there. Generator running all night from worker’s accommodation ‘container’ - ‘white noise’ - no problem to sleep with.

  • 5/5

what an amazing night with breathtaking stars and sunset! great hikes and wildlife. busy through the day but quiet and friendly at night. pub is still closed but worth a hike up red screes .we did a youtube video

  • 4/5

Definitely recommend this park up, we had 4 nights here and no bother or anything. Car park busy in the day but for the first 2 nights we were here alone, there is a donation box but it has a bag over it presuming that it's because the pub is still closed due to renovation. Only downfall was it was very windy at times, so make sure to check the weather forecast and point the van accordingly!

  • 4/5

  • 5/5

During the day a lot of people are stopping. But quite calm at the evening and the view is amazing. Unfortunately the pub is still closed.

  • 5/5

Really calm and most amazing view!

  • 1/5

This place was rammed with all kinds of vans, motor homes, campers. Unlike the honesty box

  • 5/5

Fantastic spot, very busy during the day but pub not open & likely not to be for several months yet as being refurbed

  • 5/5

    , spokojna noc,polecam

  • 5/5

Long winding path to get there but worth the while for the views. Pub was closed for renovations but many people were staying there.

  • 4/5

Stayed here the 1 night. Pub opposite under reconstruction. There was a sigh to donate £3 to park there but no where to actually put the money. Car park large can fit 20+ cars/motorhomes. Incredible views. Very windy

  • 5/5

A great night spent here. We had another 10 camper and with us. Views are amazing. Hikers arrive early to do the walks but did not disturb us.

  • 5/5

Great views for a park up and flat. However was unbelievably windy. Lesson learnt to check weather forecast higher up. Wasn’t to bad with only three vans that I could point into the wind. Will definitely be back.

  • 5/5

Great spot. Great views. Busy even in February so be best to be early. Quite windy at times but we had a relatively calm night. Hillwalkers arrive from 8 or earlier so no need for an alarm clock. No services or rubbish bin so take away with.

  • 4/5

Large car park that runs parallel with the road and is opposite the pub (which was closed). Fantastic scenery. Camped alone and had no problems. A car pulled up and played loud music for 10 mins but then left. Honesty box has a bag over it?? Small wind turbines next to pub so it would suggest it is always windy here.

  • 5/5

stayed the night here after faffing around in Windermere... what an incredible view! easy access to walks up two of the hills. The carpark seems to be an old tarmac which has decayed so I parked nose down the hill. Its a little sloped but no issues. the drive up from Windermere was quite tight in my A class motorhome, I wouldn't do it in peak season. The drive down to Ullswater was very steep.

  • 5/5

Drive is a bit steep up but no issues in a Citroen Relay, several lay bays on the way up aswell. Pub is shut now but was a very large car park and honesty box for payment. We had plenty of space with 5/6 other vans. Hardly any traffic passing in the night.

  • 3/5

Couldn’t see the box to pay. Maybe it’s gone? next to the pub- although it wasn’t open? beautiful views.. But very windy ! 40mph wind and we couldn’t sleep.

  • 4/5

Had a great little over night car camp in the kirkstone Pass car park. Nice pub and lovely food. Excellent access point to walk up the mountains.

  • 5/5

lovely place! we arrived at 3pm and there was plenty of space but later in the day people were struggling. pub food is great, evening food is only served 6-7pm

  • 4/5

Beautiful isn't the word. stunning views. friendly pub. ample space. Quiet? it was yes until midnight when a bunch of ill mannered commoners turned up in their converted transit van making loads of noise, revving as they moved back and forth from spot to spot and parking way to close. Then stood laughing and talking so loudly I'd call it shouting. waking everyone up and having us out of beds.

  • 5/5

Beautiful spot. Lovely pub too with great beer on offer. £3 honesty box

  • 3/5

  • 4/5

lovely spot with great views and plenty of space! we parked at a slight incline but lots of space for level parking. right by the road so some traffic noise but not much of a disturbance. seems to be popular for people to meet up and some people right by our van talking loudly kept me awake for a while but they left eventually.

  • 5/5

Stunning location for our van trip to Lakes. Pub was amazing. Had a couple pints but they stop serving food at 7pm. Drinks til 9pm. Plenty space in the car park with minimal traffic, albeit some buses etc travel along the road. Great night sleep in the T5. Aim to park as close to wall beside pub as possible for best views down towards Ambleside. 4G was decent on Voxi and EE. Fully recommended

  • 5/5

just had 2 nights here great place with plenty of parking. And pub food if great.plenty of walk

  • 5/5

We visited the pub for a drink and asked the barman if we could stay - he was very welcoming & friendly. £3/night paid into an honesty box. The park up has stunning views and is exposed/open to the elements. Overall we had a peaceful nights sleep - as a light sleeper the wind did wake me up a couple of times though. Weak 3G/4G signal on EE/o2.

  • 5/5

Stayed the carpark last night, absolutely amazing little spot. Great staff at the bar, very friendly. Perfect weather with brilliant views. There must have been 10 others staying and was still plenty of room for others. Perfectly quite through the night but a bunch of walkers woke us up at 6am chatting right behind our van. no biggie though, they soon left and we nodded back off for a hour :-)

  • 5/5

Beautiful spot and what a view!! Enjoyed our afternoon walk here and evening with the view. At night we were the only ones here and it was a really windy wet night. The kind that makes you think "are the fan lids going to blow off" haha. Its been an adventure! But this is nature amd thats why I've still given it five stars. Loads of places to oark, majority are pretty level.

  • 5/5

Parked up and got permission from Inn to camp overnight. Absolutely stunning views. Chris, barman, let me use the Inn toilet until closing. No hot food served this evening but bought snacks, ice cream and hot chocolate. Loved watching the skies change from blue to pink as the sun set over Windermere. Got windy but 1500ft up, so no surprise. Donation box in car park.

  • 4/5

Amazing views but can be a little exposed if weather is bad (we have a tentbox and was super windy one night!). The guy in the pub is super friendly but they do close if they’re having a quiet day. We did a litter pick in the small part of the car park we stayed and fill half a bag!!! Please make sure to take rubbish with you or clear up any left behind even if it wasn’t you :)

  • 4/5

No facilities as pub was shut when we stayed here. Some litter and baby wipes in the car park sadly. However, fantastic views and mostly quiet. Loads of spaces so you should get in, even later at night. Recommended.

  • 5/5

Inn seems to have erratic opening times, should have been open till 9pm but was closed at 6 on a Monday. Website info is unreliable.

  • 5/5

Fantastic spot, great pub over the road with really friendly staff. What more can you ask for!

  • 4/5

stayed overnight few drinks in the pub good spot for a overnight

  • 5/5

Stayed here overnight along with around 20 other camper/motorhomes. Amazing views and a lovely walk. Had few drinks in the lil pub over road. Will definitely be back.

  • 5/5

Stayed for the Night along with around 10-15 other Motorhome Coaches/Vw T5's. Great view, brilliant little pub and didn't have to pay to stay as pub was happy to have our custom. we'll worth the stop would certainly stay again.

  • 4/5

Decent overnight stay, surrounded by lovely views. Friendly staff at the pub, Guinness in a plastic cup while sat in my van. Can’t ask for much more.

  • 5/5

great views, great people, great pub. will be back

  • 4/5

Great stay last night, fantastic views and the drive up is great. Be careful as in the car park is a partially covered drain hole that could cause a problem late at night. Otherwise it’s flat and secure. We loved this place £3 min donation. As always keep it tidy.

  • 5/5

Stunning views, gravel park up, pub is lovely and welcoming! Great walks from here too. Nice to be around other campervan/ motor homes. Just me and the dog but felt safe.

  • 5/5

A lot of space, walking around. Don’t forget to left donations. Very well organised

  • 5/5

Absolutely loved it. My favourite stay so far off this app. Stayed with my three kids in the van. Felt really intrepid as it was above the cloud line. Incredible views. Weather was bad but it made the pub feel even more cosy and welcoming. Staff were so lovely and accommodating of my little ones. I will definitely be back at this one

  • 5/5

Beautiful views, no trouble, plenty spaces and donation box for parking.

  • 4/5

Nice park up for a night ,pub was a bonus

  • 5/5

Great views, flat carpark, welcoming staff at the pub, honesty box

  • 5/5

Great stop with beautiful views. Barman across the road in the pub is very friendly. Spend £3-5 in honesty box or spend at the pub. Slept with van on 2 degree tilt and wasn’t too bad. So park up on the flatter piece if you can or use levellers if you have them. Met a lovely couple camping next to us too

  • 4/5

Absolutely stunning view. Surrounded by walks. The pub was shut on Tuesday. I’m not sure if that’s every Tuesday or whether we were unlucky. The car park is reasonably level you just have to find a good spot. Toilet was open across the road too which was a bonus.

  • 5/5

Great place to stop over, owners and staff are very nice and helpfull buy a pint and some food its worth it.... let them kow you intend to stay overnight and they'll be more than happy to let you as your a customer ,cannot praise them enough. very quite no problems if a little wonky may need some levellers...but breathtaking views

  • 5/5

Had a great night here, asked the barman if we could stop the night and he said we were more than welcome, he did take our reg so would recommend asking rather than just stopping. Had a nice curry and a few pints in the pub before a peaceful night on the car park. There were a few other campers but plenty of space, the staff at the pub are super friendly and the location is perfect.

  • 5/5

Popular spot and reasonably flat. Quiet with great views. £3 honesty box.

  • 5/5

Arrived late last night - very dark but found it easy enough. Parked up and lots of other vans / cars there - maybe 20 or so. Room for much more too. The odd noise from the cars on the road but otherwise just a sheep could be heard! Good sleep. Felt very safe. Views in the morning were incredible. Would use again in a heartbeat

  • 5/5

Excellent place to park with beautiful views. Proper English pub with home cooked food at reasonable prices. friendly welcoming staff. car park states no overnight parking but this is box ticking exercise for the national park. make a donation or better still eat in the pub.

  • 5/5

Would highly recommend, views are amazing and pub is really friendly. ignore the signs saying no parking, we spoke to the landlord who confirmed they had to be up because it's in the national park, but it's his private land and he allows it, so you'll never be fined. campervan trade have kept them open during lockdown so campers are more than welcome. one of my favourite spots in the Lakes.

  • 5/5

Excellent over night Spot. Had a few nights here over the last month. PLEASE ignore the no camping signs. The carpark is private land and the pub welcomes campervans with open arms. They have to have the signs up as it's in the national park. If the pubs closed they have an honesty box for donations. If they're open spending money bend the bar is all they ask. An absolute gem!

  • 4/5

We love this spot. Stayed overnight no problem opposite a really lovely pub. The Kirkstone Pass Inn. 3rd highest pub in England staff are so friendly.

  • 5/5

Fantastic little spot, there is a pub that has decent menu and if you buy from there you can stay over in the car park no problem. Staff are mega friendly.

  • 1/5

No over night parking signs Police patrol and CCTV in operation and after I emailed the pub asking if they where open for food after saying was staying on the carpark and nothing was said till I got there and found the signs (gutted)

  • 4/5

Now has sign saying no overnight parking. Real shame

  • 4/5

Parked here on 16/4, nice and flat. Quite a bit of traffic and lots of people arrived early doors on the Saturday, but it was nice weather and first weekend out of lockdown so to be expected. Would stay again

  • 4/5

Stayed here and it was very very windy and horrible night. Woke up to clear skys and sunshine. Only a couple of other campers in the morning. I’d expect it to be busy in warmer seasons and when the pub is open.

  • 5/5

Lovely traditional pub with nice carpark to stay on for a small donation. Toilet available at the pub all night.

  • 4/5

Lovely spot with great views and a friendly pub. You can JUST about get 4G on EE and O2. Car park itself isn’t particularly level but if you assess a little first you can find a mostly level spot. Please patronise the pub or make the suggested £3 donation!

  • 5/5

Great place to park up, had some take away dinner and dessert and used toilet attached to bunk house. quiet once everyone went to sleep, great views. paid a donation in carpark box too.

  • 5/5

Fantastic views! And plenty of space to park. Overnight camping permitted, they just ask for a £3 contribution to be placed in a small box at the entrance. Right outside the pub, with picnic benches out the front. This place is ideal.

  • 4/5

Pulled up here last night around 8pm. Aprox 8 vans already here and lots of cars from walkers and mountain bikers. No restrictions for parking, £3 donation box. No facilities. Pub opposite (when open) does nice food. Quiet nights sleep, no problems. Busy with walkers arriving in the morning from 8am. Stayed before and will be back.

  • 5/5

We didn't stay over night but parked up for some lunch and its a lovely place. beautiful views and no restrictions!

  • 1/5

Car park closed so we parked on the road

  • 5/5

Had a lovely Stopover..very peaceful..woke to a beautiful crisp sunny morning..had a shock when opening bedroom blind..the colour of the mountain bathed in winter crisp sunshine.

  • 5/5

Beautiful views, great spot. Lots of space for vehicles of all sizes. Busy with walkers in the morning, quiet at night. Barely noticed the road nearby. Avoid the road called 'The Struggle', very narrow, steep and windy, take the slightly longer route from Ambleside.

  • 5/5

Great spot. We got there fairly late on a Sunday night over August bank holiday expecting it to be full but there was plenty of space. Walkers arrive early but it’s not really an issue. Right next to pub, great views, free camping, what more can you ask for.

  • 5/5

Cracking stopover. Busy during the day with walkers. We arrived at 6pm and there was room though but full by 11am the following morning. A relatively peaceful night. Beautiful walks.

  • 5/5

Beautiful place we are staying overnight. The scenery is breathtaking

  • 5/5

Nice place to stop over with great views, when clear. Friendly bar staff, food and drink very good value for money in the pub. Can only use their toilets if a paying customer, no restrictions on parking we stayed here 2 nights as walked Red Screes and some other cairns. Would definitely stay here again.

  • 5/5

Lovely pub. And some fantastic walks. Stayed the night with no problems!
