Spent one glorious night up here on NYD, quite exposed when the wind is up, but beautiful views and fairly level pitches. Not many walks leading from here, but good for a cosy afternoon/evening/morning with a great view. FYI - the Stay The Night scheme has been extended here and a few other areas in Scotland over the winter. Thank you to Forestry Scotland!

Stayed the 9/12/2023. Foggy with no views. Couple of cars parked up, but they left near darkness. Would imagine the views are amazing. All alone until 1:30am when a car with a male and female turned up, they got out of the car and walked around for 10 minutes. They must have seen the van and left. The drive back through Kielder is stunning and full of wildlife

Mid-week winter night. Grassy parking bays were wet and muddy but we parked on the hard standing, which was relatively flat. Amazing views! Great to see the Stay the Night scheme extended to winter.

  • 4/5

Used before when it was free. sadly money rules the world and Scotland as caught on. still it's a good spot for a night stop. Steep track to reach the car park. A bit exposed so beware if bad weather is expected.

  • 5/5

Amazing location. Drive up to carpark is a bit steep on a rough road. The sign in the carpark says not advised for motorhomes over 7m. We are 7.3m and got up OK- 2 out of the 3 bays were big enough, the third one would not have been. We spent the night alone on 25 July. Saw a deer. Fabulous.

  • 5/5

The view is beautiful! Very peaceful site. In the evening a few midges came out, were still there in the morning but went of around 8-9 with the sun. Spent the night with 3 other vans.

  • 5/5

This has to be the best P4N ever. Right out in the wilds, fabulous views over the Scottish borders. Dark skies and great star watching. No facilities but who cares? We had it to ourselves but only 3 vans can park there anyway. Notice say very clearly ‘no fires’ but there was evidence of at least 4. Please don’t do this as a fantastic spot will be lost.

  • 5/5

Amazing views elevated up from the quiet road below . All you hear is wild life. area is very flat had a great nights sleep ,overnight is £7 per night via app. Remember to please take your rubbish with you. Highly recommend this spot . We checked out 3 in this area and this is far the best of the 3 in the area, so we stayed here.

  • 5/5

Absolutely stunning. I recommend being awake for the sun rise over the Cheviots. Can get super windy. Now a charge of £7 paid online. Details on notice board.

  • 5/5

Very nice spot! Bays are muddy at the moment so parked on the hard standing in front of bay like the van that was there before me had done. 4g on EE

  • 5/5

wot a spot great views lovely walks perfect

  • 5/5

Stunning views and great trails for walking. Very quiet but lots of space for atleast 3 vans. Only downside was that it was muddy from rain. Would definitely return here.

  • 5/5

Lovely views. Nice quiet place. Great for our tentbox. No facilities. We were fine in the car but it would be difficult for motorhomes to get up to the top. There is another place ‘Lower Cheviot’ opposite, which might be more appropriate.

  • 5/5

The trail up is not difficult at all. Great views and a quiet night. We were here alone until at 3am. A bit boggy due to the rain but otherwise perfect location. No services at all. Great forest trails for walking.

  • 5/5

Definitely will be coming back. The views were amazing. Very quiet. Room for more than 3 vans. Easy to find. Great for the dog and for getting out on the bike.

  • 5/5

would definitely stay again. perfectly silent nights sleep. three designated spaces on the top carpark but room for 2 or 3 more. steep gravel track up so if you ard not confident then stay at the bottom one. amazing view.

  • 5/5

Amazing view! Definitely recommended to stop. I arrived around 5 and got the last spot (out of 3). Late at night a 4th arrived and stayed as well. It was quiet and peaceful.

  • 5/5

Wow! Amazing uninterupted panoramic views over local and Cheviot Hills to South East. Three level slots. Walks for dogs. Rough, uphill track to access so more suited to smaller vehicles. Good 4G with EE. Sheltered from North winds by forest. One of my fav sites. ❤

  • 5/5

Wonderful spot with great views. Road up to car park would be an experience in winter. Stayed here on a cold night in early may with 5 other vans. Capacity is supposed to be 3. I can imagine this being very overcrowded in summer. Great overnight stay all the same.

  • 5/5

Great views, level, free. what more could you want? Well, a loo and hot shower maybe but no, it's just wild here

  • 5/5

Great location with a fantastic view if the weather is good! Good reception on 4G with Vodafone and EE. Stayed one night and didn’t see or hear anyone else.. so peaceful!

  • 5/5

09/02/22. Lovely spot at the top of a narrow gravel track. No problem with the road if you take it steady. As previously mentioned, 3 parking bays, which are a bit boggy towards the back. Didn’t see anyone all night, very quiet. Spoke to a lovely Forestry Commission man (and his Border Collie) in the morning. Nice walk through the woods. Definitely recommend.

  • 5/5

A great spot with a wonderful view. Very peaceful at night, despite the amber warning for rain! The bays are getting churned up at the back with use in wet weather so recommend parking a little out into the track. Definitely max 4 vans, there are 3 car parks in the area offering space under the stay the night scheme so plenty of room to spread out.

  • 5/5

Definitely head back to this place. Highly recommend it. There was 5 vans up there and plenty of room for a couple more.

  • 5/5

Excellent park up from the Forestry commission land, stunning views, nice friendly chat with Antony from the Forestry commission...two benches provided only really space for three vans, quite a challenging, steep gravel track upto it,just take your time.no amenitys,so leave no trace guys, don't spoil it for the rest.

  • 5/5

Great views very quiet and peaceful. 7m motorhome no probs .

  • 5/5

Stayed here last night. Very steep drive up. Amazing views from the top. Busy little spot. All three van spaces were taken and another five vans drove up from 5pm to 10pm, then turned around when they realised there were no spaces. Amazing views. Very quiet at night. Good 4G signal.

  • 5/5

Great place to stay. if you are driving up using Google maps, drive down the road a bit further than it indicates and you'll see the gravel road. it is steep but neither ourselves, nor any of the other campers here had problems coming up.

  • 5/5

Part of the official forestry stay the night scheme. Had a lovely quiet night and the views are stunning. The track up to the area could be a bit daunting for some users.

Amazing spot with incredible views. If you’re a bit worried about the steep gravel path up, there’s an identical spot a little further down the road on the right (if you’re passing this park up on your left). Both spectacular with great circular walks nearby (we used view ranger app for this)

  • 5/5

What a stunner of a park up! It's an official Forestry Scotland park up so no worries of getting moved on, the ranger came round at about 8am and was very polite. The track up is a bit steep and loose gravel but keep your van moving at a steady speed in the correct gear and you'll have no issues. There's also no cost to overnight this place.

  • 5/5

Fantastic first stop off arriving into Scotland, quite boggy up at the top this time of year. 4g signal on 3network

  • 5/5

Super site en pleine nature pour y mettre son bivouac. Le chemin pour y parvenir est en pente et caillouteux mais praticable pour les petits véhicules ou vans.Le camping sauvage sur place y est conseillé tout en respectant les lieux bien sur.

  • 4/5

Little bit slopey and there were some midges in July (enough to keep us in the van!). Great views

  • 1/5

NOT suitable for large motorhomes. We are stuck on the gravel hill and someone is coming to recover it. Absolute nightmare, if we try to drive even crawl we slide and are getting closer and closer to the hill edge. Never again!!!!!

  • 5/5

Great spot. Super peaceful and an awesome view. Loose gravel on the road up but all vehicles should be fine. Thanks for sharing this spot.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Excellent location, super views. Probably only suitable for vans or small motor homes due to the steep gradient to the picnic area. Road is mostly loose gravel.
