A small car park at the side of the dam, surrounded by nature, there is a footpath to follow from here for a walk on Trans Penine Trail. Quiet place, there were a few other people that parked and walked from here in the evening but once it was dark we didn't see a soul. Nice and peaceful, good rest and a beautiful morning view with the sun coming up over the river. There were lots of midgies as it was quite hot when we were here. No overnight and no camping possible.

If you’re stuck in the area this is ok. No real issues W3W ///pound.pictured.studs

  • 3/5

Three seperate notices on wall saying "no camping or overnight stays in vehicles" look like they have been recently put here

  • 4/5

An ok place to park for the night. nice views but sleep was disturbed due to other campers talking and slamming doors till the early hours. Cant imagine this place will remain an overnight spot for long to be honest. was about 4 other campers when we arrived and 1 even had a campfire going. We started vanlife to get away from people so didnt really suit us. (We are 32 and 24 not pensioners)

  • 5/5

an amazing spot with great 4g signal on Giffgaff and Smarty, also good TV reception. fabulous walks in the surrounding area and great panoramic views.

  • 5/5

Good spot next to reservoir, arrived last night is scary driving through the forest in the dark like something off a horror film, good spot to sleep though!

  • 4/5

Great spot, we love this place and just had another stay. The only negative we have is how much the potholes have got worse. Love that sound of the water all nigh, amazing views. It is a very wet environment so it gets really muddy at times but still the views out way it all. Love this place.

Lovely spot to stay overnight! We arrived at around 7:30pm on a Sunday night in November and another van arrived shortly after us. When we had the pop top it was very noisy with the reservoir but it’s a nice sound, like white noise. Lovely view to wake up to!

  • 5/5

Lovely spot, lots and lots of pot holes on the main parking area. A tight hill to get down so be careful as you’re entering but not a single person there after 8pm. Lovely spot with amazing views. Lots of dog walkers in the morning but no hassle. Would definitely recommend

  • 4/5

Beautiful spot! The turn in is a little sharp, no bins and there are a lot of pot holes but 100% worth it. Little noise of people arriving here and there but slept fine anyway

  • 4/5

Lovely spot. Very quiet at night. Arrived just before sunset. Two other small van campers like us. Would only fit 3 or 4 bigger vans. You could park a bigger van on the lane approaching this spot. Rated as 4star because it gets very busy from 8:00am with local dog walkers and families! Definitely a popular spot with the locals. Maybe not for you if you like quite mornings. Quite at night good 4 us

Turned up here last night to find lots of young males doing what we presumed was drug dealing. Didn’t feel comfortable staying which is a shame as the location is lovely. Maybe just a one off instance but wouldn’t be going back!

  • 5/5

Love it! Amazing view, got here and caught the sunset. Not a lot of cars here. Nice trails to go on walks. Definitely a favorite spot.

  • 4/5

A great little spot, that was peaceful. Lovely views to wake up to, and a few paths to explore. A firm surface (not tarmac) but has holes, so if it rains expect puddles and a bit of mud. We had some boy racers turn up, but could hardly hear them. Shame about the rubbish they left. Make sure you come in from the main road and not down the lane from Padfield. You won't make it down the latter

  • 4/5

Quiet nights sleep, very busy during the day but no hassle about staying. Lots of rubbish which was a shame

  • 5/5

Car park by Dam which was very peaceful. No facilities.

  • 5/5

Loved this little spot. Only one other camper when we were there on a Friday night. Beautiful morning view over the reservoir. Lots of walkers and runners in the morning. We had to leave early but wish we had time to explore the surrounding walks as they looked beautiful!

  • 4/5

Great little stay. Little bumpy getting into the parking spots. Room for 5 motorhomes/campervans. There was 3 others there on a Friday evening. Great views but midges everywhere so be prepared to swallow a few if you go for a little walk.

  • 5/5

We loved it here. Quiet (once the sheep had stopped having a party as darkness fell). One or two weird animal noises (but who doesn’t love nature? Isn’t that the idea of camping off piste, at one with the wilderness? Quite a few joggers, cyclists etc. Listening to the lapping of the waves being so close to the reservoir was super. Had to do a bit more than the usual litter pick though. A bit dirty but not horrendous (no bins!!!) if we all do a wee bit it’ll be fine. In the morning did an unmissable drive over the hills to Newmills a wonderful little town with super shops and cafés.

Great place to stop but do make sure your satnav brings you in off the main road I regularly drive my van off-road with work and my satnav baught me in the back way the ABS and ASR were working overtime helping me get the van down the track very steep lots of loose rocks. met another couple down there had a great night chatting and sharing our spots had a clean up of area before we left.

  • 5/5

Good location , off the main road. a few dog walkers around in the morning. A couple of cars in the evening/late at night, but they were not disruptive and we felt safe. No facilities. Would stay again

  • 5/5

Beautiful peaceful place. lots of dog walkers. but no issues. very quiet, great nights sleep.

  • 3/5

Nice spot, but lots of cars driving past in the middle of the night, and another van camper made us feel very uncomfortable by being really possessive over the area.

  • 4/5

Stayed the night along with 2 other vans undisturbed few cars coming and going at night but no bother nice spot

  • 5/5

Stay regularly, great place to stay, friendly people and no hastle!

  • 5/5

Stayed overnight - lovely clean spot with stunning views.

  • 4/5

Nice place, a couple of other vans here with me. Owls hooting all night, very relaxing. My sleep app says people turned up at 1AM but I didn’t hear them! Lord of rubbish :( but amazing view of the reservoir

  • 5/5

Great place not massive but plenty space nice and flat and the sound of the water is great

  • 4/5

Lovely place to stay for the night. A tad wet, sandy, muddy with a murder spot vibe but a really good spot. We had a great night sleep, just note that the wall for the dam is not very high so if you pop out at night for a pee be careful. Yes a couple of stoppers at night making the place very litter heavy with McDonald’s bags which is a shame as the campers will get the blame. Amazing spot come morning time, we arrived late at night so we had an amazing surprise when we got up. The dam is amazing and it’s set in a very lush green area. Very busy in the morning with dog walkers, all in all a very good spot that we would definitely go again.

  • 5/5

A lovely peaceful car park, felt very safe. A few cars with youths turned up during the evening but they were no bother. Lots of dog walkers in the morning. A beautiful view in the morning next to the dam. We will definitely come back soon!

  • 5/5

Great spot. quiet, good signal, flat and a lovely view in the morning. would absolutely stay again.

  • 3/5

Lovely spot for a night by the Reservoir, but it gets busy through the day with walkers, also as already mentioned, cars do turn up on a night, don’t cause any problems but head lights on full beam and loud music aren’t very sociable.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot run by water company United Utilities. There are paths around the reservoirs and cycleable bridleways. A UU official visited but didn't say anything. Social media contact indicates they are aware people stop here but happy with that.

  • 5/5

Stayed here last night, couple of other friendly campers there too. Plenty of space but quite a few potholes. Lovely view over the reservoir. Some harmless youths coming and going in their cars throughout the evening but caused no bother! Saw some cute dogs. Would stay again.

  • 4/5

Nice place to park for the night, very quiet (apart from the pleasent sound of the reservoir overflow) a few youths in cars parked up in the evening but didn't cause a problem

  • 5/5

On Trans Penine Trail. Lovely spot.

  • 4/5

Stayed here on the 6/8/2020 Beautiful spot with lovely walks right at our doorstep and views of the reservoir. Great cell service. Pretty busy throughout the evening and in the morning but we were alone overnight apart from a group of local boys showing pretty late, however they didn’t stay long and didn’t bother us. Big potholes and a little muddy, but our stay was after a couple of days with lots of rainfall, so makes sense.

  • 1/5

Locals are complaining regarding human waste in the car park. Please respect this area otherwise it will be another one with restrictions.

  • 5/5

Beautiful spot. Quite busy but wasn't a problem. Lots of short walks. Make sure you enter from the main road past the visit centre and stop just after crossing the dam! DO NOT go down the track as its very rough and tight with no where to turn down!

  • 3/5

Scenic spot hidden away. Disadvantages - there were a group of absolutely harmless but kinda loud teenagers there afternoon til midnight ish, and the guy at the pub mentioned it's their usual hangout! Also right opposite the resevoir cascade. Lovely little short walks about. If the carpark is full you could also getaway with parking on the mud road leading up to it.

  • 5/5

Can’t comment on the place as the carpark was rammed and overflowing, however the satnav took us down a very narrow lane at first and access would have been impossible. The correct entrance is off the main B road, there is a stone walled roundabout as you enter the access road. Take care

  • 5/5

Lovely spot for a stay over lots of walks nearby.Very popular for walkers but very quiet after 2000 hrs.The car park has potholes and when raining gets very muddy.

  • 4/5

Flat, quiet night sleep with beautiful view overlooking the water. Avoid arriving from the East due to aweful track, only made it through due to experience driving 4x4s in through mud. RIP clutch.
