A free hard-packed gravelled level car park with no potholes permitting overnight parking. Great for motorhomes. Oddly, no bins so take your rubbish home. Perfect for stargazing as it’s in the dark skies area there is no ambient light here. Perfect for a circuitous walk around Loch Trool along a trail. Clockwise is best as most follow the signs taking them anti-clockwise, so you’re not getting held up is stopping to let people past. Take in the beautiful views of the loch and hills as you pass a waterfall, Bruce’s Stone, Buchan Waterfalls, Battle of Glentrool, the oak woods of Buchan, Glenhead and Caldons, before finally the Martyr’s Grave of the Covenants.

Parked up for the night, very quiet no one else about, was a few walkers in cars earlier but all gone now, can’t think anyone will be down anymore tonight

  • 5/5

Fantastic spot. stayed for 1 night, really peaceful. lovely walks. Cafe with toilets and water 2 miles away in forestry centre Will definitely stay again. could happily stay a few days here

  • 4/5

Remote quiet location. No facilities except large skip for bin and running water from loch. Lots of walks from here and mountain biking.

  • 5/5

lovely quiet spot to park up. A few cars parked all night for wild camping in forest.Did some lovely walks along the loch troll. The forest warden arrived in the morning and had a nice chat no problem overnight parking. No facilities so bring it and take it with you leave no trace.

  • 4/5

26/9/23.stayed one night. lovely walk along side loch trool. not able to go all the way around as forestry works still ongoing. peaceful night.well worth a visit..... there is a skip for rubbish. no other facilities. but the visitor centre is back down the road.

  • 4/5

  • 5/5

Accidentally found this spot years ago, it's now signposted with gravel path and parking, that is to say it's quite busy - and for good reason - Loch Trool is beautiful!

  • 5/5

Astonishing loch, very pretty. The skip smells a bit so don’t park too close, but a very useful amenity! Midges after Dusk but that’s the trade off for beauty I suppose.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Great spot! Very close proximity to the loch walks, and a nice starting point to climb Merrick as well. I work full time remotely and the signal here was great, strong enough for video meetings etc. 4G on 3 and Tesco (O2). Quite a few midges around but if you're travelling Scotland you're probably prepared for that. Better on windy/rainy days.

  • 3/5

  • 4/5

Parked at lay-by 100m up the road from this one. Room for 1 long van (2 small ones). Quieter than the main area. Great access for walks and Glentrool Loch (circular loop closed at the time of writing due to forestry operations) . We stayed one night, (had planned 2) but left because of the midges. We are familiar and ‘prepared’ for them but this was by far the worst case we’ve experienced.

  • 5/5

Stayed one night in late March. Only one other van. Level ground, Forestry Commission car park, adjacent to gargling streams and the start of more than one lovely walk. Varied and wonderful bird song in the morning, no services and little signal but produce shack, deflatingly barren during our soujorn. View = boovilant lv3.5, however, so so quiet and everything on your van step

  • 5/5

Stayed overnight early February. Only 1 other vehicle. Sheltered from all wind and it has 4g signal on EE and 3 (unlike the other places further up the Glen which have no signal). Nice and hard with no potholes. Very quiet night but it gets busy from 9am on a Sunday morning. Stargazing was mind blowing as it’s in the dark skies area. The trail walk around Loch Trool is beautiful and interesting.

  • 5/5

Great quiet spot at this time of year, lots of trails in the area too. Really dark, really quiet no issues, would def come back and use this spot in winter again. no facilities at all at this time of year.

  • 2/5

small carpark so not good if there's a few vans as it would leave no space. but very handy for the walk around the loch . plenty other spots up and down the main road if the carpark is full

  • 4/5

  • 4/5

the place is fine even for a motorhomes.A lot of cars as people camping in the Forest around the Lake.Exept terrorising midgets flies, Worth to check. The Lake is beautiful, so quiet, out of all civilisation.Great for walki and picnics to get rest with the nature

  • 4/5

Guter ruhiger Platz. Keine Verbotsschilder.

  • 5/5

Lovely quiet spot about a five minute walk away from the Loch, with amazing views. Great for stars at night. There was a big bin here as well, which was useful. Quite busy with walkers in the morning, but no problems.

  • 5/5

  • 5/5

Amazing park up with lots of walks about and a river you can walk along. Stayed off season so quite quiet but there is space in the car park and a big lay by just before it that could fit more vehicles if needed.

  • 5/5

Arrived Sunday lunch time, very busy but only two vans by 5pm. Great spot.

  • 5/5

Stop night fit about4/5 vans . Quite go wrong time you will get the midges . Walks around Loch trool . As some says eggs and flowers left and honesty box for them .

  • 5/5

I spent Saturday night here. the carpark is ideal with several spaces for MH. however as it's a popular walking and mountain biking area parking places can be tight although the car park emptied in the evening. great woodland walk around Loch Trool (5.5mile). there is also an honesty box at this carpark, free range eggs and bunches of flowers. definitely come back.

  • 5/5

Nice, very simple and quite place. Beautiful walk round a lake. Highly recommend location. I would suggest to start your walk by crossing a bridge.

  • 5/5

Camped here on 17/10/2020: highly rate this area! No other campers there the night I stayed. If you are here for the Dark Sky Park star gazing you’re in for a treat...it’s suuuuuper dark! The hike around Loch Trool is a must.

  • 4/5

We stayed one night here and the carpark was great - large, three separate areas to park and flat. The walks were lovely too, but what let the area down was rubbish left behind by people, despite bins and a skip for rubbish. We stayed on the main paths due to recovering from an injury and our dog found a used sanitary towel, batteries, glass bottles and cans. It is very disappointing that people clearly come here to enjoy nature but don’t have the respect to take their rubbish home.

  • 4/5

Really nice spot for an evening and a beautiful loch, no midges but be aware if you take your dogs, I've pulled about 20 ticks off my two in the last 24 hours!

  • 4/5

Car park was too busy (end of sep) but there are plenty of other more intimate camping areas off the main road which are way better than the main one. no midgies luckily. really amazing walk around loch trool, would definitely come here again.

  • 4/5

Great wee spot for start of the Loch loop. Corbett walk is about a mile up the road. There is a higher car park but it says no overnights. Very quiet night even though a few vans staying. No services but to be expected out in the wilds.

  • 4/5

Quiet night, share car park with cars for tenters who have disappeared into the undergrowth. Many walking trails. Great for dogs.

  • 5/5

Nice spot, car park for a few cars/vans and a 10 min walk to the edge of the Loch. No facilities, just nature. (And 4G...)

  • 4/5

Good flat spot and can pick up a 4G signal. Unlike the car park further up near the Bruce stone.

  • 4/5

Slept here for 2 nights end of October. Very calm but freezing cold.

  • 5/5

Great place for exploring stayed for 1 night very peaceful brilliant for astrophotographers

  • 5/5

  • 4/5

Precioso lugar, tranquilo y buen sitio de inicio de rutas.
