Fantastic little find peaceful and out the way. No issues would definitely return

Doesn’t allow roof tents! Was moved on by the ranger. But other than that a lovely spot, ok toilets and some other campervans there, made it feel safe and secure. No phone signal.

  • 4/5

Good place to stop but very low trees and rather narrow on roads if you miss the turn. make sure to bring a big zapper as the bugs are after any light and for signal walk just down to the picnic tables down from bogs and you get signal.

  • 4/5

Overnight parking in a motorhome is allowed here for £10. bring 10x £1 coins or pay online before you get here as there's no 4g reception. we arrived with no cash, had to make note of the website, (bookwhen.com) then drive away again until we got a signal! peaceful night apart from youths turned up for a bit. Loos open all night

This is a brilliant spot. Nice level gravel car park surrounded by nature. Bins and toilets on site. Toilets are 24/7. Rangers patrol which adds to the safety / security. Parking is £10 for an overnight and you can do it online on your phone. Beautiful surroundings. A white Owl flew past our van in the morning and a deer walked across the car park unfazed. Beautiful place! Please respect it.

Was great as a single woman alone felt v safe here, v quiet stay, one other camper van. Toilets open all through the night and bins on site. £10 for overnight stay. Make sure you buy a ticket and ticket for next day if you’re planning on walking as ranger did come round to check. V friendly, offered advice for walks etc. would return.

no issues, good nights sleep, just make sure you have £10 in change as no signal and nearest town is 10 minutes away.

Millshield car park managed by Northumbrian Water and right on the banks of Derwent Reservoir with toilets available around the clock (no lighting during darkness take a torch) for £10 per night and £5 all day in a dark skies area. Spent 2 nights here after a very restful and undisturbed all night. 2 bars 4G on EE. Will definitely be back

Lovely view of the reservoir from the spacious car park. £10 per night, helpful ranger let us know about the locked gates and when they’d re-open. Nice and quite, would recommend a stay here.

  • 4/5

Great quiet spot, sheltered from the wind as well. on arrival we bumped into the local ranger who was very friendly. follow the signs to 'millshield picnic site' to find it. and again...take coins for machine!!!

  • 5/5

Stayed here for one night, peaceful great views and great night's sleep. Plenty of picnic tables nearby. Toilets open through night and also bins in carpark. Parking cost £10 for overnight and expires at 9am. Machine only takes coins

Great car park and I found it very quiet. Toilets were okay and open throughout the night. It's a beautiful place with lovely walks and picnic area. I would definitely stop again. Overnight ticket expires at 9am. You need more than £10 in coins if you want to stay longer the next day. The ranger does check your parking tickets!

If you are passing the visitor centre for the reservoir during the day you can pay for millshield by card/cash. Just stick the ticket on the dash for the warden to check as he patrols late evening. Stayed last summer when clear skies and total darkness created the most idyllic spot to stargaze.

This is the Millshields carpark at the Derwent reservoir. The ranger who is usually around in the evening is friendly and supportive. It's a nice site but there is a moto x site not far away. There is some motorcycle noise at times. otherwise great.

£10 pn, bring your coins! Take literally two steps up the hill and the view is stunning, we moved our table up there to eat. Ranger was super friendly and chatty, and was keen to move on people who weren’t adhering to rules (e.g. no tent pitching/fires/bivvying. He was happy for us to use our bbq to cook food, which we took the old coals with us. There was one other overnight camper there and a few other cars randomly turned up during the evening (as often the case in these car parks). The toilets were just about passable, clean enough but very basic. Next morning we walked an hour over the other side to the Boat Shack for a bacon butty (opens at 10am), they have a nice tipi with fires and the milkshakes look great.

Nice and quiet, had no issues. Ranger came around to check on the morning was friendly and made sure we had no problems over night. Not much of a view but still really nice to stay and go for a walk. Don’t forget change for the machine too.

  • 3/5

Great as a stop off nice solid ground carpark is built up around it with trees and hills. So not much of a view from the van but get out and sit on the hill and you can see it all. Quiet night only few people in during the day.

We stayed here for one night to trial our new build van, lovely peaceful area, lovely walks round the reservoir. Pay machine wasn’t working and when Northumbrian Water came round to check tickets they couldn’t have been nicer. Just make sure you take £ coins for the machine.
