Large gravel layby, great view down the valley towards and the top of Lake Windermere, next to a busy road, but stunning view. Enough space for 2-3 campervans like our Citroën Relay. At least for one motorhome. No signs, no barriers, fairly flat, no amenities, but pub a couple of miles back up the road.

Great location with wonderful views. We spent one night here very early in the season (first week of March) and it is only a hundred or so feet below the snow line. Some activity during the night, a couple of cars stopped and then drove off. Otherwise no one bothered a Land Rover with roof tent. Might be different later in the season

beautiful park up, stayed on the 09.08.23 people, pick up your rubbish! there was used toilet roll left on the floor amongst other rubbish, it won't be a parking space for long otherwise

Lovely spot with a gorgeous view down the valley over Windermere lake. Was 1 other car when we arrived and we fir comfortably in a van. The lane is steep to get up but is nice and quiet overnight. No toilets but only a few mins drive to Ambleside with all its cafes/restaurants/pubs with facilities if needed.

We loved it here. The hill was steep but the views from the top where beautiful. The clouds came in and it was nice n quite. A few cars during evening (6pm-9pm Ish). A sheep even came up next to the car! Will be going back

Loved this parkup; amazing views and really peaceful. Don’t think signal was great and I wouldn’t say space for 3 vans unless small! Would recommend

Stayed here last night! Enough room for x 3 vans… perfect views and a great wild camp spot, since Red pit is currently closed at the moment.

Came here just for a lunch stop. Lovely views to Lake Windermere in the distance. Zero internet on the 3 network for me.

Stopped overnight here last night. Quiet, no hassle and great views. Relatively private. Space has been reduced a little due to some gravel storage, but can still accommodate 2 smaller vans. Maybe 3 with considerate parking, though this will remove any sense of privacy. Perfect for an early start in Ambleside.

Great spot for a night, wonderful views and quiet road. Not suitable for Instagram vans but was perfect for me in my VW caddy maxi

lovely little spot. Arrived in the dark and were greeted to lovely views of the surrounding hills. Plenty of room for 3 or 4 campers as there was three campers and a car parked there for the night.

I stayed here for 1 night, room for 2 campervans lovely views and very quiet road

  • 5/5

Just us here. Arrived in the dark but awoke to a beautiful panoramic view with Windermere in the distance. Ambleside is only around a mile down the hill.

  • 4/5

We stayed here on two nights, each on a separate occasion. There's not too much space here - enough for 3 small campers probably. Quite nice and quiet when you're there - we only had a couple of cars go past overnight.

Beautiful view, easy to get too and very peaceful. a few cars overnight but nothing caused an issue

  • 5/5

Beautiful view, would best fit 2 campers comfortably level as this spot it a bit hilly. Annoyingly another van arrived thinking they could fit and were manoeuvring for 10 minutes at 23:30 but apart from that a good stay, has decent signal and enjoyed seeing the sheep dogs round up a herd whilst we had our breakfast:)

Stayed here for 2 separate nights without any problems. stunning view down the valley and quiet overnight. highly recommended for campervans although the drive down "The Stuggle" might be a bit hairy for bigger vehicles

  • 5/5

Stayed here twice now. Have a converted 17 seat minibus which is a bit of a “struggle” passing other cars but close enough to walk in to town. Took us half an hour to walk in for food and made sure we had enough beer to walk back up the hill! It’s a slog but worth it. No traffic during the night very peaceful. Loads of large places along this road all the way up to the kirkstone pass.

Amazing spot for day and night. Views down the valley worth ‘The Struggle’ getting up the narrow and twisty roads. Road closed in winter. Stayed for the night, no disturbance, very quite.

  • 5/5

Fantastic views!! The drive up was not for the faint hearted up the “struggle” but no problems to speak of. Think it would be a struggle to get more than two campers on the lay-by.

  • 4/5

Great spot. Good views. Right next to main road which is busy during the day but quiet at night. Area is relatively small, but you can get good 4G signal!

Great view and flat. Amenities near by in Ambleside.
