Parking space (large lay-by) to start the walk up to Pen-y-fan.
There are facilities, parking is for free.
Trees and bushes between parking spaces and road, hence not loud. we slept very good there.
in the morning there are some walkers and a snack van with coffee, tea and burger (very good!)

Arrived just after lunchtime - officially no over night parking but asked staff and was told if I bought a ticket for one day and left in the morning (leaving the place as we found it) then all good. It’s a lovely place (no facilities other than toilets which are locked at night) but highly recommend.

  • 4/5

The car park has been rebuilt and there is now a £7.50 fee per day. You have to pay at a machine in coins or by pay-by-phone. 8am to 4pm there is staff on site to pay by card. Sign next to the machine says charges apply 24 hours a day. Sign on the ticket machine says charges apply dawn to dusk and "no overnight parking please". Clean toilets and a walk to the Pen y Fan make this place worthwhile

Parked up for the night on a Saturday, was very busy when arrived and noisy cars along the road at first but the sound of the cars eventually died down the later it got. The morning was very busy with the hikers going up pen-y-fan. Great little stop if someone is looking for a 1 nighter. however no mobile reception at all on o2 and tesco for us.

  • 2/5

  • 5/5

Stayed here on New Years Eve with a few other campers which is always reassuring, although close to a main road hardly any noise. Very busy in the morning as one of the starting routes up to Pen Y Fan, can imagine it would be incredibly busy in the summer. No phone signal but a fab peaceful spot with bins and portaloos, works currently happening so can imagine it will only improve more.

  • 4/5

Stayed 1 night, was flat with ok signal (EE) and portaloos available. Traffic was quiet after 9pm. Great for a morning walk up Pen y Fan. Works being done to upgrade carpark so this may change in the future

  • 3/5

Very noisy with traffic, and extensive building works on the car park mean no toilets or footpath access that end. It’s very busy with walkers during the day but only three of us stayed overnight.

  • 5/5

Belle vue, accès direct au Pen y Fan.

  • 5/5

Great Park up, we spend the night no issues. There is a block of portaloos which is handy as they are free. Great walk up Pen Y Fan. No phone signal but that doesn't bother us.

  • 5/5

Great park up spot but no toilet facilities ! Was a bit of road noise in the night but it didn’t bother me. Great views of the mountains / hills surrounding ! Also right on the path to begin hike to Pen Y Fan

  • 3/5

  • 5/5

Top! Perfect if you want to do the Pen y fan! and the next day you can buy a Hamburger!!

  • 5/5

We stayed last night. Great spot! We walked Pen Y Fan late last night but decided to stay anyway. Heard some walkers around 3am up to see the sunrise. Other than that, a great night’s sleep! Bring toilet roll for toilets!

  • 5/5

Always enjoy staying at the bottom of Pen Y Fan. Nice and quiet until the Burger Vans come. Never had any issues

  • 5/5

Arrived on a Friday at around 4pm, plenty of spaces available. You can hear the road, but it’s not obtrusive. 5:30am brought walkers, so you won’t be having a lie in! It’s around an hour to the top of the Fan. Two burger bars, we used the one at the bottom of the path; bacon melt with egg highly recommended!!

  • 5/5

Arrive late evening to secure a parking spot for the next day's climb. Nice location, burger van starts up at 6am and by 7am the carpark was full! There are portaloos (not the cleanest but better than none at all) Would stay there again, it's a lovely spot to rest up in, probably even better in summer.

  • 5/5

Great place to stay - a few other people staying in their cars around us everyone was quite and felt very comfortable- great signal and 3G to watch a film if wanted :)

  • 4/5

Free parking, no signs up saying no overnight parking, couple other vans out and about, with a good start point of the hikes. Good sleep that night, minimal road noise

  • 4/5

Stayed here in my roof tent for one night and found the road quite loud, however would probably be ok if you were in a van! Portaloos on site and burger/hot drink van (man arrived about 8am). Lovely hike up Pen y Fan and swim in Llyn Cwm Llwch?❄️

  • 5/5

Stayed here 2 nights, no problems and toilets open 24hrs. Great place to start the walk to pen y fan. Next to road but quiet enough overnight

  • 5/5

Great place for an overnight stay. Lots of parking spaces in a quiet lay-by off the A470. Level parking, lots of portaloo's and a burger van in the morning. The army were walking down Brecon Beacon at dark, great to watch. A fantastic walk with amazing views.

  • 5/5

Perfect place to stay before a walk up Pen y Fan. We arrived around 8pm on the first Saturday of the half-term holidays and there were about 3 other vehicles there. By the time we woke up in the morning, around 8am, the car park was nearly full but everyone was quiet and respectful so a very good night’s sleep. Feels very safe and a beautiful part of the country!

  • 5/5

Perfect spot for the night and to start the walk the next day. Few cars through the night but barely noticed it.We parked right at the end away from the toilets as it was quieter. Started getting very busy from around 7:30am. So head here early if you plan to do the walk up to pen y fan.

  • 3/5

Really nice views and a good long uphill walk. There's zero giffgaff / O2 phone signal anywhere in the parking area, someone put a big hill in the way.

  • 4/5

Great place to stay -tho the road next to it is rather busy. Got a great connection (on the 3 network) so even managed to watch a film on netflix.

  • 5/5

Great night stay! Arrived 6:30pm 13/10/31. Had a peaceful night sleep. Road got busier around 6am. Got up at 7:30am and walked up Pen-y-fan. Took 2hrs round trip - easy climb. Got back to a full busy car park. Toilet facilities, hot drinks/burger van and small rubbish bins. Perfect stop-over. :-)

  • 5/5

Parked here 26/9/21 and great spot. Just a couple of cars parked up. Was really peaceful and the walk was a great start to the day

  • 4/5

Beautiful park up area! right next to starting point for pen y fan. a few campers parked up when we arrived but not busy at all, this place is quite spacious and had portaloo toilets make sure you have some tissue handy! we stayed just for one night as you dont get any signal here.

  • 4/5

Nice parking in this lay-by, gets the sun most of the day for solar. Nice quiet night. There are porta loos and burger van and rubbish bins. I walked the horseshoe ridge 13.89 miles with amazing views and got great pics on the "diving board" at Fan y Big. Nice refreshing swim in the river beneath the waterfall just over the little foot bridge. will be back.

  • 4/5

Nice level area to park. we stayed right at the gateway to the path, I'd advise against this, people travel all hours day and night up the path. will definitely stay here again though. Car park is pretty packed during the day, we arrived around 10pm and there was still quite a lot if cars parked there then.

  • 5/5

Great parking area! Close to nature and quite during the night even been next to the road! It gets really busy around 9am till 7pm ish, we managed to spend two nights here and loved it! The walk up to pen y fan is hard but the view is worth it! There are toilets and a van selling coffees and hot rolls and hamburgers. Great stop!

  • 4/5

Good first stop in wales. Walk up to mountain and forest is well trodden, seems to be popular but not overly busy (atleast not this time of year), lots of space, toilets were just portaloos (were being cleaned in the morning) and The Grill King Ian gave good advice on where to visit. Not far from Brecon which is good as had no signal whilst there.

  • 4/5

Great location, lots of space to park and a quiet night. It does get very busy there, quite early in the morning (sunrise walkers parking up). Toilet block locked all day but there are portaloos (which were overflowing and dirty on our stay!) Food van opens up in morning for breakfast rolls and seems to still be open late afternoon for food.

  • 5/5

Great place to park up and relax before going up Pen Y Fan. This is a regular spot for me. Food on site during the day from vans. Temporary Toilets 24 hours

  • 4/5

Nice spot great view, but according to other ones quite busy 24h on a weekend, I understand that is not a campsite but someone was that kind that park his car, next to ours with running engine at 3 AM...

  • 5/5

Stayed here with the mrs for 2 nights arrived on a Friday night at around 20:00 few cars/vans around, found a place straight away. Right at the base of pen y fan got up early Saturday walked up the mountain at 07:30 it was a good quiet walk up (steep), very busy when we came down at around 11:30 there was 3 food vans all take card payment, tidy and quiet place to stay. Will be here again.

  • 5/5

Beautiful, lovely, quiet place. Stunning view, busy during good weather. Stayed for two nights, really recommend.

  • 5/5

Plenty of choice for parking spots after 7pm. Pretty quiet until around 6am when the parking gets busy. Although I did go on a weekend so it would be quieter on a weekday. Toilets are an advantage too ??

  • 3/5

Brilliant spot for a young family as portaloos available all night and were extremely clean (take your own loo roll). However it’s very busy all night long and I didn’t get much sleep. Perfect to get out and start the climb up to the top. I will use it again but will take ear plugs next time. The kids slept through it

  • 3/5

Ok for one night, very busy ,at 5.00 in morning people started to arrive talk very loudly banging of car doors.

  • 5/5

Stayed here for one night before climbing Pen y Fan the next morning. It’s next to a main road but it’s virtually silent overnight. Does get busy early as walkers arrive. Lots of room and mostly flat.

  • 4/5

Great spot for Pen-y-fan walk. Some flat spaces but not peaceful, busy all day and night

  • 5/5

Nice easy spot. Quiet and level. Also perfect for the night before/after exploring around Pen-y-Fan. Or even better as a base for a night hike.

  • 4/5

Fantastic location for Pen y Fan, we walked up from the car park and loved every second. It was quiet overnight with a beautifully clear night's sky and we had a good night's sleep. There are portaloos and a food truck.

  • 4/5

Great almost flat spot with fantastic views. A little bit of road noise, but are higher than the road so not too much of a problem and doesn’t feel too close. It does get busy in the day with walkers hiking pen y fan so might not get a space. We arrived in the evening and was plenty of space for us to choose from. There were a few other campers the night we stayed. Good spot if you have a dog as river right by the car park and far enough away from the road to not worry.

  • 4/5

Parked up for the night around 7:45, other campervans and motorhomes around but plenty of space. Toilets shut but portaloos available.

  • 5/5

I've stayed here a LOT in my T5. its SILENT in the night but can get loud in the morning with the burger van. the views are un beatable though.

  • 5/5

Parked here in a car before, so first time in my T5. Great spot lots of vehicles around at 2015 when we arrived but very quiet. Few car doors slamming at around 0430 when people go up for the sunset but didn’t last long. Porta Loos surprisingly ok. Great place to stay for a walk up Pen y fan. Burger bar opened around 0830, it starts to get busier by then.

  • 3/5

Quite crowded with hikers going up the Pen y Fan trial almost constantly. In the middle of the night a car pulled up behind us with bright lights on, waking us up. Awakened early by aforementioned hikers. The snack van was great though, and the ground was nice and level. Not awful, but I would have preferred a quieter, less crowded place to sleep.

  • 4/5

Great little car park at the base of Pen-Y-Fan, highest peak in South Wales, can get a little busy, very popular with walkers especially in summer months. Toilets and burger van available and several places for parking up for one or two nights, can get busy, people in and out of the car park early hours for the spectacular sunrise views

  • 5/5

Parking was cool here. We stayed for 3 days with no drama. Everyone was cool. Enough room for everyone. Tea and burger van was a hit at the end of the pathway, toilets were an absolute bonus. The walks are amazing. All was great. Would come back here.

  • 5/5

  • 4/5

Very quiet at night. Stayed a few times. Food vans arrive early so prepare for some noise quite early. Staying guaranteed you a space in the day if you plan to climb Pen y Fan, but very busy and not easy to manoeuvre during the day, so best only to stay here if you plan to climb the mountain. Added bonus the toilets

  • 5/5

We stayed on a weeknight and had a great nights sleep, no disturbance. Portaloos are very handy too. Very little road noise after 8pm.

  • 3/5

Arrived early afternoon and car park was full. Waited down the road until 19:30 and the place was nearly empty. Stayed overnight at end away from the services and were not disturbed all night. Car park was filling up from 08:00.

  • 3/5

Good spot for location and it has portaloos. be warned Saturday morning there was food vans setting up. One started setting up right beside us at 04:00 and the generators went on at 05:00 which meant no sleep. very busy during the day also so we moved into a much nicer spot in Brecon town by the river. highly recommend that spot over this one for sleeping.

  • 5/5

Busy to start with but soon cleared out overnight. Lots of walkers right up until sunset. Toilets on site and food van in the morning. Protected by trees from the road so sheltered and cuts out some of the noise. Right in the shadows of Pen Y Fan, beautiful views up the mountain. Quiet and safe.

  • 3/5

Nics place, but very busy and noisy all nite. At 6am food trucks with their engines on. Maybe because it was saturday night.
