This is a beautiful spot to stay, with a lovely walk around the lake, beware though this is a very tight entrance and after heavy rain the car park can be boggy in areas. It’s quiet, the car park is on a slight slope. Wouldn’t attempt this in anything larger than a L3 Peugeot Boxer. There are no facilities, please take rubbish with you! Fantastic pub, 15-20 minutes walk up the lane, take a torch!

  • 5/5

Great place for anyone to park up. we managed to get our peugeot boxer camper round the tight corner and had a lovely nights sleep followed by some mushroom foraging in the morning. It's a popular spot for campers and dog walkers. right next to a huge lake in the middle of nowhere

  • 4/5

This was a really lovely spot for us. The car park itself was shaded and quiet with enough parking for approximately 8-10 vehicles. Just behind the car park you have access to the beautiful Bewl waters. The only reason why I haven’t given this plot 5 stars is sue to the somewhat awkward access. Driving a vehicle up to the size of a caddy maxi is perfectly easy and comfortable to do, however anything bigger may be somewhat awkward due to the two metal posts planted either side of the entrance, followed by a steep slope up to the level of the parking area. I measured the gap between posts using a phone application and it gave me a measurement of 2.96 metres. Apologies if this isn’t 100% accurate. I hope that this will help anyone thinking about this spot make a more educated decision. It may also be worth mentioning that we also saw a converted Luton van in the car park so that proves that it’s possible for that size vehicle to make it in as well.

  • 3/5

great place for smaller vans. we had to turn back because the landing gear was too low. difficult access to park. we turned back, we didn't risk snag the undercarriage. parking in the forest, close to the lake where you can have a picnic, walk and ride a bike with great views.

  • 1/5

  • 4/5

For smaller campers, this is a very nice spot. For big campers we wouldn't advise to take the same risk we did (length 6,7m, height 3.3m) as it was challenging for the road towards the parking and to enter the parking space there is a steep short ramp down and directly up and this while turning between 2 small poles. We almost hit the back bottom of our camper.

  • 3/5

  • 5/5

Good quiet night with other vans. Lovely lake dog walking but beware they can’t swim because of blue green algae. We made it fine down the lanes and round tight corner to car park in medium sprinter

  • 5/5

very quiet night, shared carpark with 3 other vans, lots of dog walkers, all friendly. Next to lake and cycle route around Bewl water. Entrance to carpark steep, we have a Citreon Relay and only just got in and out.

  • 4/5

Location great, lake is beautiful, but… arrived at 5pm, car park was empty, by 7 was filled with dog walkers, people having picnics by the lake, also loads of teenagers for an evening rowing event, was loud! By 10ish all had left and had great night’s sleep. Dog walkers arrived again early morning. Entrance to car park very steep, plus width restrictions. Sprinters etc/lowered vans would struggle.

  • 5/5

Great quiet spot. The tree branch that others mention seems to have been cut back so the entrance is manageable for a transporter size van. The road leading to the spot is narrow and winding though, so take care with wide vehicles.

  • 3/5

Fairly peaceful in the night but kids in their cars with lights and engines on until 11 pm. 5am a van of post-party blokes turn up and parked right next to me for an hour all shouting with each other and left a trail of rubbish in their wake which I cleaned up. A little intimidating as a lone female.

  • 5/5

Peaceful, secluded and wonderful location by the lake. Shared with two other campers but room for a few more comfortably. No issues with traffic or late night visitors. Entrance needs to be approached with care but we saw larger vans than us (e.g. Sprinters) in the carpark. Low hanging substantial branch is the main obstacle. Just take your time!

  • 4/5

We had a good quiet night, a couple of dogs walkers in the morning, recommend for small vans.

  • 1/5

I guess I just experienced the ‘angry local’. A bloke in a car turned up around 7.30pm and spent over 30 mins maneuvering around my van, flashing his lights, stopping and starting his car. Continuously until I was brave enough to start up and reverse around him to leave. Shame as bet it’s lovely in the daytime:/

  • 3/5

Actually a nice spot but really just for smaller vans!!! We didn't read the older comments and came with a 7m+ Crafter, dipped the ground with our back and hit the tree with our roof. We really hope to get out again without serious damage. The place itself slighlty decents to one side and is quite muddy (danger to get stuck). Don't come with larger than 5m vans, seriously!

  • 5/5

Lovely spot, very quiet apart from a few dog walkers. Might be a struggle for larger vehicles to get in.

  • 5/5

What a lovely quiet place I have a Peugeot boxer L4 H2 got in between the posts easily around the corner and up the slight hill fine. Just watch out for the low tree on the left. Dead silence at night so had a good nights sleep and the usual dog walkers etc in the morning. Several lovely walks around the lake. Stunning views we found a bench to sit and enjoy, we will definitely come here again.

  • 5/5

Great quiet spot (at 10pm sunday night) near the water, in the woods, can’t hear anything except the local creatures. I am 6m long and it was close on the last turn into the car park - so anything longer, or higher than 2.8m might struggle. Gravel ground - not even or level but within 2degrees out in the corners. I am expecting lots of dog walkers tomorrow.

  • 5/5

the "angry local" as described didn't turn up (sadly, maybe?)... peaceful nature spot, good walks and a quiet night's sleep. maybe better suited to a Transporter size camper considering the entry

  • 5/5

It’s a FREE camping spot guys.. in nature. Yes, there are some narrow lanes but take it easy. It’s not a busy road. A bit of a tight angled turn to get in, but for my SWB vito it was fine. 1 van already there, another came later. Some lads came for sunset and left - and were chill. No doggers tonight, but I’m sure you could easily scare them off haha. Very quiet sleep. Will cycle the lake today.

  • 3/5

Very secluded spot, but its not easily reached. The turning into the car park is steep and narrow. Any vehicle over 5.5 m will struggle. Was woken a couple of times in night by young visitors in cars. They dont seem to stay long though ,so it isnt a problem. If you can get in, do try this place. Bit of litter, which I would imagine enrages locals. Total darkness, under a canopy of trees.

  • 5/5

great place to stop for the nigth, the for mentioned car was here, ligths on and off, engine on and off moving backwards and forwards in the car park. I took my phone out went up to the car and started recording it. it drove away. car was a blue vw golf on a 05 plate. great walk around the lake, took about 4 hours.

  • 3/5

Access isn’t good for any midsized motorhome as they have gated off and placed posts which makes turning into it impossible but is still ideal for small camper van

  • 5/5

Lovely quiet car park, no noise during the night other than the birds on the lake. No signs saying no overnight parking. As others have mentioned, the access road is quite tight, so don’t come to this one if you have a motor home as you might get stuck!

  • 5/5

I visited here with intentions to stay overnight. However, it was so isolated and I was the only car in this small carpark, so I decided not to sleep here. It is a beautiful place over 10 miles of nature paths. Great for bird watching. I spent a fews hours here and then left and in that time I only saw 3 people. Definitely would try again with others.

  • 5/5

Stayed here for one night, was one other camper. Nice views.

  • 4/5

Perfect place for a night. beautiful lake just stone tru away. yes very narrow access.

  • 3/5

After reading the good reviews we ventured along. Managed to get into the carpark in a LWB sprinter however it is an awful entrance with metal pillars and entrance is on a steep angle. The carpark it’s self was on a slope and quite muddy after the rain, we loved on. We did however pick up some duck eggs £1.40 for a box of 6 at nearby house so it wasn’t a wasted journey.

  • 4/5

LWB Ducato. Ideal peaceful stop over. Very quiet until all the morning dog walkers turn up but no issues. It is a tight entrance as mentioned.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot peaceful bit tight to get in but ok for my vw t6 spent one night no restrictions. pub not far away in the lane

  • 5/5

Great little spot by the lake which you can just see through the trees (1 min walk to clear lake view). No disturbances all night, 1 other van. Tight to get in/out due to low concrete pillars before entrance but OK in LWB van. No height restrictions.

  • 5/5

Perfect little spot at the end of the road. Small path to get to the big beautiful lake. Stayed for one night. Only one other person in the lot for the night.

  • 5/5

Easy access for vans, might be bit too tight for motorhomes. Amazing views of the lake. No BBQ allowed. Peaceful spot.

  • 2/5

The road leading to this is very narrow and has low handing branches that caught on my roof rack. The entrance to the car park is a tight right hand bend up a hill. Any large van wouldn’t be able to make this bend. My wheels just spun trying to get up the hill as it is unsurfaced and I had no way of turning around. I had to reverse the whole way back up this narrow road in the dark which wasn’t a very enjoyable experience. This spot is only really suitable for a small van that can get up a rather steep unsurfaced hill

  • 5/5

Great spot, was 2 other vans here for the night , but was plenty big enough. Parked long ways to get a flat lush night, is on a bit of a tilt. Very sharp turning in as others say but there was a sprinter here, so they must have got in. No height limit and pub about a mile down the road. Launched our Kayak from round the corner (they charge to launch from the other side - but went round the whole lake no problem). No swimming (blue green algae). No signs about overnight stays, just no bbqs.

  • 4/5

Lovely little spot. Very sharp and steep turn in. A few campers there with us overnight, really beautiful views just a stones throw from the van. Quite busy with walkers and cyclists etc. A police patrol vehicle arrived and a very pleasant officer spoke to us for a bit. He said technically you aren’t meant to stay but as long as no ones causing any problems he won’t be saying anything. They patrol the rural areas to keep them safe. Very nice bloke and had a relaxed view of camping. Think he only spoke to us as our doors were open and lights were on as we were sorting things out and all the other campers were blacked out for the night already. Would definitely stay again.

  • 5/5

Do Not Try if long. the road now has a hole at the sharp right turn into carpark. with the gradient into it from the corner I growned out my tow bar. We are 7.5 meters long. also if carpark busy not enough room to turn around our vehicle. (I'm a coach driver who is used to getting a 14.5m vehicle into places that are tight and getting out) . Brilliant spot otherwise nice and quiet.

  • 3/5

Unsuitable for large vehicles, I have XLWB Ducato and only just got in if you’re not a confident driver don’t even attempt it. Width restriction bars and sharp right after pulling through. Wooded area. No view of lake no over night restrictions.

  • 4/5

Positives: small quiet car park. 60 second walk to open water, long and short walks. Perfect for cycling, kayaking, paddle boarding. Negatives: No swimming allowed. Car park is very small so when full can be difficult to park up. Car park is also on a slight slope so park accordingly. Narrow lane plus a tight corner on the way in (decline followed immediately by an incline). We navigated this easily in an old VW LT35. Overall: quiet and secluded, the proximity of the water, secret hideaways to explore in the woods and beautiful scenery won us over.

  • 5/5

Amazing spot quiet and beautiful views 2 minute walk from car park. Tight single lane road to get up to the spot but we had no probs in lowered VW T4

  • 4/5

Quiet secluded car park, sheltered from sun by nice woodlands. We got our 5.5 metre hymer in without any trouble but the entrance is tight and steep. Busy with cyclists on weekends but quietens down at night. No waste bins or water. Swimming in the lake is not recommended due to blue algae.

  • 4/5

Had a very peaceful night here. Narrow roads to get access but nice spot.

  • 2/5

Have stayed here often and a few times big groups of kids in boy racer cars have arrived and made loads of noise. The other night a group of lads stayed all night and made loads of noise revving their engines and partying. I felt quite intimidated.

  • 5/5

Brilliant place, the lake is amazing and very quiet. No swimming but can paddle board or kayak

  • 5/5

Lovely spot within 20 feet of Bewl Water and a little cove where you can swim, walk dogs and enjoy a sunset. Space for about 5 vans if parked lengthways. If you are an inexperienced or unconfident van driver you might find the very low entrance bollards a bit tricky but there’s definitely enough room for a van up to about 6 foot wide.

  • 5/5

Beautiful place to stay. We stayed for one night on a Saturday, we were the only ones here all night and only saw people in the morning. Waking up to the calming bird calls of dawn. There are some local houses but all of them are out of view if you park sensibly. We have a MWB crafter and it was fairly tight getting in as there are posts for a barrier followed by a tight turn and incline to get into the car park. Our rear Safe T bar did scrape the floor very slightly. Incredible place. Ciuwaz for posting.

  • 5/5

Very narrow and long lane to get to the parking spot and a very tight turn to the right at the end of the lane to go up the ramp onto the parking area. Not many passing places and I suspect it’s busy in summer. Picked up loads of horse chestnuts so tonight I will have a feast. Great secluded spot off the beaten track. Regards Peter

  • 3/5

Beaucoup de passage. Sous eau suite aux fortes pluies.

  • 5/5

    Super spot, calme.

  • 5/5

Prachtige plek in natuur op doodlopende weg. Erg smalle en door begroeiing lage entree.

  • 1/5

  • 5/5

    Great little spot!

  • 4/5

  • 3/5

Nice quiet campsite, but not a great view of the lake directly from the car park. Would recommend the road at the bottom of the lake instead as stunning view and easy access for all length vehicles.

  • 4/5

Sehr guter Platz.

  • 5/5

Beautiful spot, shared it with 2 other 'vans when we stayed, but as the others say be warned about the entrance. Got our 7m rig in without an issue but imagine the bigger buses would struggle!

  • 5/5

Lovely spot we got our 7m auto trail in ok there are a couple of steel posts as you come in but it’s all good.

  • 5/5

Stayed here over Easter a fantastic spot!! Shared with one other camper on the first night, but all to ourselves other than that. Beautiful LONG walk around Bewl Water.. definitely worth taking the bikes!! Will visit again.

  • 5/5

Lovely spot, yes very tight to get in and out, but we managed ok in our renault master. Beautiful walks. Dog friendly. Very quiet, we will definitely go back.

  • 1/5

Lovely place but do NOT attempt it in anything more than a small camper, or longer than 5 metres. We failed to read the previous comment and were in a Hymer B544 with towball mounted bike rack. The turn into the car park is 90 degrees and goes down and then sharply up on that 90 degree turn, with metal bollards either side. It was our own fault for not reading the comments but we only just made it and broke a back light in doing so. Early the next morning we removed bikes and bike rack and then made it out with just scraping the tow bar. Lesson learned for us...always read all comments first. As the previous comment said...you have been warned!

  • 5/5

    Great! Nice and quiet

  • 5/5

Great location. Calm and quiet, silent at night. Beautiful walk around the edge of the lake. Transit Jumbo just about gets around the corner. Anything bigger won't make it.

  • 4/5

Nice quiet spot. Not scary getting out of the car park as it's a tight turn, but fine in my 6m conversion. You'll not find much better in SE England.

  • 4/5

Nice place near a beautiful lake. Got to find the perfect place to be leveled. We got disturbed by noisy people between 10pm and 11pm. Nobody in the morning, rain was helping.

  • 4/5

Great pub nearby, The Bull. Beware the narrow entrance p, we scraped the side of our van

  • 2/5

Very very narrow entrance and a 90° turn on an incline to get into the carpark. Do no use with anything bigger than a day van. I managed to get in (7m rig) but had to reverse out (1.3 miles,) due to bottoming out on the turn. Be warned.
